2019 Domaine Landron Chartier Muscadet MELON DE BOURGOGNE
This wine comes from the far west of the Loire Valley, in Pays Nantais where the grape Melon de Bourgogne thrives and is the only one authorised to have the 'Muscadet' appellation. The vineyard here is mostly situated on a bedrock of 'mica schists' (a type of crystallised rock) with decomposed volcanic material. The grapes are hand-harvested and there is minimal intervention in the cellar. They are aged on 'lees' (predominantly dead yeast cells left over from the fermentation process) in glass-lined concrete tanks for about 6 months, before being lightly filtrated and a low level of sulphur added. There is no malolactic fermentation keeping the wine bright and fresh. A true representation of Muscadet!
