2018 Domaine de Brin ‘Vendemia’ DURAS BLEND Gaillac
Domaine de Brin is loated in the Gaillac region, one of the oldest winemaking regions of France. Damien Bonnet, a young gun winemaker, took over the family Domaine in 2008 when it was only ten hectares and showcases his passion for the region by resurrecting rare grape varieties. He gained organic certification almost straightaway and has been experimenting with winemaking using amphoras (ancient-style clay jugs) and concrete tanks, along with a desire to produce wine in the most natural way possible. His vines produce very low-yields and achieves great concentration in the grapes, which are all hand-harvested.
The Vendemia is a blend of 'autochtone' (indigenous) grapes from the South West: Duras, Braucol, Prunelart and a touch of Syrah. 20% of the wine is aged in amphoras then blended with the final wine, before further ageing in concrete for 18 months. It undergoes no filtration and low sulphur addition at bottling. The wine is crunchy, juicy, full of bright red fruits and spices, medium body and has a pleasant finish. A fantastic wine exhibiting the exciting grapes of the Gaillac region.
